Cooper, Austin, 1759-1830, artist.
[Effigy of a nobleman in the priory of Athassel, County Tipperary, Ireland]
Engraving of the effigy of a late thirteenth/early fourteenth century nobleman in the abbey of Athassel, County Tipperary, Ireland, which shows him carrying a glove in his right hand and the folds of a mantel in his left hand.
Someone, probably Austin Cooper himself, has indicated in pencil a position higher up on the neck of the figure for the pendant shown on the breast in the engraving. The engraving was published in 1788 but the book in which it appears states that Austin Cooper made the drawing in 1781. The original drawing on which this engraving was based may be found at 2122 TX (1) 25.
